Correlation Between Rainfall, Streamflow And Groundwater Levels For The Zachariashoek Sub‐Catchment Near Wemmershoek, Western Cape

Zachariashoek  catchment  was  one  of  the  study  areas  looking  into  the  hydrological characteristics  of winter rainfall catchments in the Western Cape. Nearly thirty years of historical data are available for the Zachariashoek area. This data include rainfall, gauge plate readings for the weirs, and water levels for the boreholes in the area. Numerous articles and reports had been written  about  the  research  done  in  the  area,  concentrating  mostly  on  the  effects  of  fire  on streamflow and vegetation.

Diamonds on the soles of their feet: groundwater monitoring in the Hout Catchment, Limpopo

We present findings from a current project in the Hout Catchment, Limpopo Province in South Africa, In grounding the discussion, we propose a citizen science framework that builds on ideas of the living lab, trust and research integrity. The idea of research integrity is not only about ethics but also about methods and we propose participatory methods that are inclusive, just and fair.

A Strong Case for Diversification by Dr Shafick Adams

30 Jul 2020
Source water supply planning and development must be diversified to mitigate against water scarcity — a serious threat to South Africa’s water security. I bet that almost all policy and decision-makers have a direct or indirect investment portfolio. Most investment portfolios are diversified across a variety of stocks and bonds to minimise risk, to preserve capital and generate returns.
