Study on the Relationship between Water Quality and Wetland Plant Community in Huixian Karst Wetland

Huixian Karst National Wetland Park is the most typical karst wetland in the middle and low latitudes of the world and has become an internationally important wetland. The relationship between water quality and aquatic organisms in Huixian Wetland is a hot research topic in wetland ecology. This article focuses on the relationship between the current water quality situation in Guilin Huixian Karst Wetland and the growth of wetland plants. Sixteen sampling points are set up in the wetland to monitor and analyze water quality in wet, normal, and dry seasons.

A Case Study on Capacity Development in Rural Groundwater Supply in Acholiland, Northern Uganda

Groundwater is the most important source of potable water in rural areas of Acholiland, a sub-region of northern Uganda. Installation of handpumps has been the focus of local government and international aid to provide safe drinking water in Uganda. However, non-functional handpumps are one reason for the abandonment of groundwater resources. For handpumps to be sustainable for years, appropriate siting and construction is required, as well as monitoring.

Chemical Processes Governing Siloam And Tshipise Geothermal Springs, Limpopo Province, South Africa

Geothermal springs occur throughout the world and South Africa (SA) is endowed with several springs of this nature. Siloam and Tshipise are among the known scalding geothermal springs found in Limpopo Province. The optimal use of a geothermal spring is largely dependent upon its physical and chemical characteristics. Hence, there is need to understand the chemical processes controlling the springs. Hydrochemical characteristics of Siloam and Tshipise geothermal springs were undertaken for a period of six months May – December 2014.

Assessing Spatial, Temporal Depth Variation Of Groundwater Salinity Variation, Cape Flats Aquifer, South Africa

The use of specific-depth sampling technique to demonstrate groundwater quality variation different groundwater units of unconfined aquifers has not been widely published. To demonstrate the feasibility of such technique, the unconfined Cape Flats Aquifer (CFA) in Cape Town of South Africa was studied. The aquifer underlies an urbanised area which is vulnerable to contamination from industrial and agricultural activities, waste disposal sites, landfill sites, and formal and informal settlements.

Water Quality Guidelines: Which to use and where applicable?

When conducting water quality monitoring, questions arise on which water quality guidelines to use and where to apply them. For example, the use of South African Water Quality Guidelines (SAWQG) for Domestic usage compared to the use of the South African National Standards (SANS) for Potable Water Quality when monitoring drinking water quality. The World Heath Organization (WHO) published a set of water quality guidelines for drinking water which can also be used instead of SANS.
