RE: Request for Assistance with Water Crisis at Lawley Primary School

Dear Sir/Madam,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention a dire situation that we recently encountered during a visit to Lawley Primary School. On the 13th October 2023, our organization, the Groundwater Kids Foundation, in partnership with Nedbank, had the opportunity to visit the school, but we were deeply saddened to find that most of the learners had already been dismissed by 9 am. The reason for this early dismissal was due to a severe water shortage in the area.

It has come to our attention that Lawley Primary School has been facing this water shortage for several months, with no indication of relief from the government. The school currently does have a borehole, but unfortunately, it has been languishing, broken for a staggering nine years. Understanding the challenges faced by the school, we kindly implore the Ground Water Division or its members/ member organisations to consider sponsoring or donating your services towards the installation and maintenance of a fully functional borehole at Lawley Primary School. Additionally, our partners at Nedbank are open to negotiate partnering towards this endeavour.

Your expertise and assistance in this matter would not only alleviate the immediate water shortage but also contribute to the long-term well-being and educational experience of the students.

We understand that the Ground Water Division may be financially cautious given the current economic climate, but we appeal to your sense of compassion and generosity, and considering that we have enjoyed a wonderful working relationship in the past.

The students at Lawley Primary School are in desperate need of a reliable water supply, which is vital for their education, health, and overall development. By providing support in this endeavour, you would make a lasting impact on their lives.

We kindly request that you consider our proposal and take action to assist Lawley Primary School in securing a fully functional borehole. We would be more than willing to provide any additional information or documentation that may be required as you review this request.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,
Ms. Tumi Malema
