Building a Groundwater Educational Pipeline from Elementary to Continuing Education

Water resources worldwide are stressed, and the number of groundwater professionals required to manage those resources is not being generated in sufficient numbers. Groundwater educational resources must be placed in schools to generate excitement and raise awareness. Additionally, people entering the workforce need training throughout their professional careers. Oklahoma State University partnered with the U.S. National Ground Water Association to develop a framework for providing education and training programs in groundwater that allow for interactive online education at all levels.

Sharing water resources and the complexities around it: Three Case Studies from the Western Cape

With increasing population growth and a subsequently increased demand for food production, the agricultural sector has had to grow and develop continuously despite drought-stricken water resources in recent years. The expansion in this sector requires increasingly efficient water use management and increases in water supplies, which are often met through groundwater utilization. In the past several years the use of groundwater in the Western Cape has increased exponentially and thus has forced the sharing of resources.

The Council for Geoscience has a corporate responsibility in rural development projects as part of the South African government initiative in food and water security. Geophysical surveys were carried out at Elizabeth Conradie School in Kimberley, Northern Cape Province South Africa aimed on siting production boreholes to supply the school with water.
