I am a senior hydrogeologist at GEOSS South Africa with a BSc Honours through Stellenbosch University and an MSc in Geohydrology from Free State University. I joined GEOSS as a full-time employee at the end of 2015 where I have worked since, predominantly on groundwater exploration and development projects for the agricultural, industrial and municipal sectors. Notable projects include borehole drilling, testing and production management for the towns of Calvinia, Brandvlei, Makana/Grahamstown, Paarl and Wellington in South Africa. My main work responsibilities revolve around the test pumping of boreholes for the purposes of aquifer parameter estimation and production recommendations. I have been involved in MAR projects and in 2019 attended the IAH MAR Training Workshop in South Africa, ISMAR 10 Symposium in Madrid, Spain, and more recently ISMAR 11 in California, USA. My international work experience includes Sierra Leone and Botswana, which consisted of on-site drilling supervision and management, as well as injection testing for MAR.

Prof | Matthys Dippenaar | Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology | Earth Science | Gauteng | Hatfield | Soil Science, Water Resources, Groundwater, Geology, Hydrology | |
What happens when dry ground gets wet, or when wet ground gets dry? Climate change, infrastructure development, drainage and dewatering and other project life cycle implications are mostly focused around drying wet ground, or wetting dry ground. In soil. In fractured rock. In karst. These are my topics of interest. I currently work at the Department of Geology, University of Pretoria, doing research in the cross-disciplinary fields between Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology and Vadose Zone Hydrology.
