LECTURER (HYDROGEOLOGY)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:
  • Lecturing undergraduate courses in geology and hydrogeology;
  • Lecturing honours courses in hydrogeological topics, including environmental management and environmental geochemistry;
  • Participating in research projects on vadose zone processes and hydrological behaviour of rock and soil;
  • Supervising of honours and masters research.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • An applicable MSc degree in Hydrogeology;
  • Work experience in Hydrogeology;
  • Experience in presenting undergraduate courses in Geology and/ or Hydrogeology.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Ability to attract postgraduate students;
  • Collaboration with other researchers and institutions;
  • Attendance and presentation at local and international conferences;
  • Raising research funds;
  • Good language and communication skills.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • Passion for hydrogeology and academia;
  • Appropriate research publications and lecturing experience;
  • Experience in hydrogeological work with a geochemistry and management focus;
  • Registered with a professional scientific registration authority.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
