ASSOCIATE HYDROGEOLOGIST POSITION

GPT requires the services of an Associate Hydrogeologist in the Inorganic Unit to be stationed at the
Durban office.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

Business aspects:
  • Effectively follow strategies developed by management to reach targets and ensure productive hours are achieved
  • Ensure projects are completed within budget
  • Ensure work quality meets and exceeds client expectations
  • Plan and designate project resources within timeframes
  • Keep stakeholders informed during the entire project, from kick-off to completion
  • Ensure GPT and client SHEQ strategies implemented across unit
  • Manage change when change arise using both client’s and GPT’s management of change procedures
Professional aspects:
  • Groundwater assessments and monitoring – more routine projects can have appropriate teams from other offices involved
  • Provide reliable interpretation of routine field data to formulate conceptual site model, with proof of originality, clear insight, and depth of understanding
  • Plan, and in some cases, lead fieldwork, routine water, soil and rock sampling
  • Perform field investigations and data evaluation including construction of basic conceptual models, with supervision
  • Prepare basic proposals for all routine types of work for any client
  • Attend client meetings in support of project manager, assist with compilation of presentations to clients, attend public participation meetings
  • Writing and reviewing of basic scientific reports for hydrogeological/contamination investigations
Qualification and minimum requirements:
  • Honours Degree (or higher) in Hydrogeology with 3-5 years’ experience in mining related groundwater studies
  • Proven track record of budgeting, managing subcontractors and completing projects profitably
  • Experience in environmental consulting, client interaction and dealing with clients directly
  • Experience in the writing of scientific reports is a prerequisite
  • Preference will be given to a registered professional scientist (earth sciences)

  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time while paying attention to detail

GROUNDWATER MODELER POSITION

GPT requires the services of a Groundwater Modeler to be stationed at the Pretoria office.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

Qualification and minimum requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Geology / Hydrogeology / Environmental Science
  • Mathematical background – must have a working knowledge of elementary mathematics, especially linear algebra and matrix algebra
  • Chemistry background – must have a working knowledge of elementary chemistry, especially chemical reaction rate constants
  • Modelling insights – must have a working knowledge of the different types and use of modelling boundary conditions and available modelling packages
  • Modelling experience – must have completed at least 50 models with more than one software package
  • 10 years’ experience in environmental consulting
  • Valid driver’s license and own transport
  • Conversant in MS Office
  • Provide credible references
Professional aspects:
  • Provide specialist inputs in terms of formulating the conceptual site model
  • Provide reliable interpretation of complex field data
  • Involve in and develop and drive data management and presentation strategies
  • Prepare technical input and costing for tenders and provide specialist input in complex tenders and non-routine proposals
  • Develop templates and/or guidelines for data management implementation
  • Implement quality assurance and quality control protocol and review remediation projects and modelling reports
  • Provide specialist inputs to project management and execution
  • Provide reliable interpretation of complex data sets, i.e. complex site conceptualisation, interpretative report writing, high quality scientific reports
  •  Attend client meetings at executive/decision-making level
  • Provide planning and technical direction for project managers/responsible persons
