About this event

Free TDI Training Webinar – “Mine tailings dewatering trends over the last 40 years”

Over the past 40 years advances in mine tailings dewatering technology have had a major influence on the ability to construct safer tailings dams and to conserve water. Initially, low-density thickened tailings dewatered by Conventional and High-Rate thickening were suited only to wet dam construction methods (Upstream; Downstream and Centreline).

The development of Paste and High-Density thickeners have allowed further dewatering of tailings to a much higher-density product which are suitable for alternative and safer tailings dam construction methods. Although these new technologies were successfully implemented in smaller mine and backfill applications there have been difficulties in applying to large tonnage (> 75 000 t/d) operations. Recently, in the aftermath of the Brumaldihno tailings dam failure in Brazil, demand for even further tailings dewatering in the form of Filtered tailings is being applied.

This session will be presented by Andrew Vietti owner / director of Vietti Slurrytec who has an MSc degree from the University of Natal, South Africa.

Andrew Vietti has over 30 years of sedimentation and de-watering experience in the mining industry world-wide. Having initially spent 15 years in research at De Beers Consolidated Mines implementing Paste Thickening technology, he became a director at Paterson & Cooke before co-founding Vietti Slurrytec.

Andrew has specialized in clay slurry colloidal behavior; Paste and Filtered de-watering, encompassing most mineral types in both small and very large operations. Andrew regularly presents papers at international conferences.

The training session will take place Wednesday the 11th of August at 3pm – 5pm GMT+2.

Registrations will close at 9am (GMT+2) on the 11th of August 2021, so please be sure to register before this time. Feel free to make use of this time zone converter to not miss out on the webinar.

This event is free for all TDI members and followers, for more information send an email to [email protected].
