Pretoria Water: Book Launch

The Hydrogeological Heritage Overview series (funded by the Water Research Commission) was formally showcased at the launch of the first book on Pretoria’s springs.  The launch was held on 16 July 2013 in the Treehouse Teagarden on the rooftop of the Plant Sciences Complex, supplying a beautiful view of Pretoria at sunset.

Pretoria’s Fountains – Arteries of Life elaborates on the development of Pretoria at the hand of its water supply.  Pristine water sourced from these springs (colloquially termed ‘fountains’) supply Pretoria with drinking water to this day.  The quality is exceptionally good and treatment is not required.  Groundwater is furthermore more protected against contamination, evaporation losses and droughts than surface water, making it a viable yet under appreciated natural resource.

This book and/or interactive CD is available from the Water Research Commission: Publications Office, orders [at] wrc [dot] org [dot] za or contact tel: +27-12-330-0340
