Symposium - Unconventional Gas: Just the facts (GWD, WISA)

Event Date:
18 Aug 08:00 - 19 Aug 16:00
Event Description:

ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM
The symposium will be held on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th August at the CSIR International Convention Centre, Pretoria, South Africa. The centre is situated in Meiring Naudé Road, Brummeria and is easily accessible by Gautrain, as well as being well signposted from the N1 offramp. The CSIR Conference Centre website: www.csiricc.co.za has a map to the venue as well as GPS co-ordinates and suggested routes indicating how to navigate there by Gautrain.

ANTICIPATED PARTICIPATION
The previous MWD and GWD symposia typically attract around 300 delegates; we believe we will exceed this number and are aiming to attract between 350 and 500 delegates from industrial, regulatory, research, and civil society organisations who are working in the water and wastewater sector in South Africa or other countries undertaking the exploitation of unconventional gas resources. These delegates will come from the following backgrounds:

  • Universities
  • Provincial and national water, environment, and mining-related government departments
  • Engineers, managers and educators
  • Natural and social scientists, biologists and hydrologists
  • Resource economists and management agencies
  • Representatives of water boards and industry
  • Policy-makers, consultants, stakeholders and relevant NGOs

SYMPOSIUM PROGRAMME
The two-day symposium will include invited presentations from industrial, regulatory, research, and civil society organisations. A panel discussion, poster presentations, a social function, and ample opportunity for networking and discussion will also be included.

COMMUNICATIONS
The symposium utilises a master mailing list of over 6000 individual e-mail addresses of people, organisations and associations in the water industry in South Africa and other SADC countries. Conference notifications will be sent out regularly between now and the symposium to everyone on this list. Sponsoring organisations will have their names added to these notifications as they come ‘on board’.

REGISTRATION
There will be Exhibition opportunities at the symposium venue where tea and coffee breaks and daily lunches will take place. Participants are invited to exhibit their services and/or equipment.

For delegates attending both days of the symposium, the estimated registration fees are as
follows:

  • R2000 excl. VAT per WISA or GWD member*; and
  • R2600 excl. VAT for non-WISA or GWD members for attendance of the two-day symposium.

*NB: Students can join WISA or GWD free of charge (only a small admission fee applies), to qualify
for the member discount.
